A decade ago, a group of women gathered together because they shared a dream. That dream was that more children would have new school clothes and shoes at the beginning of each school year. The women were Assistance League Santa Clarita member-volunteers, and on that day, one of those women spoke up. "We have a vineyard!" said Jeannie Carpenter. The Santa Clarita Philharmonic announces its third annual Student Concerto Competition. The winner of the competition will perform with the orchestra at its May 21, 2017 concert. The competition is open to all Junior and Senior High School students in the area covered by the William Hart Unified High School District including public, private, and charter schools.

Saturday, October 15, will mark the 27th celebration of the Santa Clarita Artists Association with The Art Classic Gala which will be held in Hart Hall at William S. Hart Park in Newhall, from 1:30-5 p.m. The art exhibit will be open for free public viewing on Saturday from 10-1 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 16, from 10-4 p.m.

Fall is here, and true to its name, we've already seen some leaves falling. Just a few days ago, we started experiencing some strong wind gusts in Santa Clarita Valley. Although the cool breeze is refreshing when temperatures are still nearing triple digits, it does create additional yard work for many of us.
